Genesis RP-423™ reduces the filter cake thickness and improves filter cake quality in oil-based and synthetic fluids while reducing the filtrate volume. Genesis RP-423™ is a liquid product that provides improved filtration results and eliminates many of the issues associated with mixing large amounts of asphaltic products.
Genesis RP-423™ is used to reduce filter cake thickness and improve the filter cake in non-aqueous fluids. It is especially effective in synthetic fluids at temperatures greater than 300°F but performs well in diesel-based fluids and at lower temperatures.
Properly applied, Genesis RP-423™ will reduce or eliminate the additions of asphaltic materials like Gilsonite and give a higher quality filter cake that is more pliable and lower permeability compared to conventional non-aqueous filter cakes.
Since the product is liquid, it mixes easily and there is no risk of lost material from solids control screens as there is with asphaltic products. Typically, a large amount of product is lost on the shale shakers after mixing dry asphaltic products.
Asphaltic products tend to reduce the filtrate volume, but do not have much effect on the thickness or the quality of the filter cake. Genesis RP-423™ acts to reduce the cake thickness and improve the cake quality by making the cake more pliable. Reduced cake volume and a more pliable, erodible cake can be related to improved hole conditions, particularly for tripping the drill string and running casing.
An initial treatment of 1-2 lb/bbl is recommended. The product has proven effective at concentrations as high as 4 lb/bbl. Results will be seen on mixing, but the properties will continue to improve as the fluid is circulated and exposed to temperature and pressure.
After initial treatment, additions should be determined by changes in properties and estimated product concentrations. The product does not require lime or alkalinity to become active.
