Poly Gen™

Viscosity, filtration control, and encapsulation Drilling performance improvement

Description

Poly Gen™ is an innovative polymer technology used to create high performance water-based fluids for drilling, completion, and reservoir drill-in.

Combining viscosity, filtration control, and encapsulation functions in one product can replace several additives normally used for those functions. This results in lower overall product usage for equivalent properties.

Application

When used in fluids, Poly Gen™ replaces conventional polymers like xanthan gum, poly-anionic cellulose (PAC), and acrylic encapsulator with a non-damaging polysaccharide blend.

As the primary component of Genesis Fluids non-damaging reservoir fluid, Gen Sys™, it produces a highly shear thinning low solids fluid with exceptional filtration properties. Effective in fresh water and high salinity, high hardness produced brines and naturally occurring environments. Poly Gen™ based formulations are tolerant to contamination from formation brine and solids. Proven to be non-damaging by independent third-party testing, protection of the producing formation is assured.

Poly Gen™ can also be used in conventional drilling applications. It provides the benefits of improved hole cleaning, minimal filter cake on porous formations, and cuttings encapsulation.

Product Benefits

By replacing several polymer types in the fluid, Poly Gen™ reduces material requirements and results in a fluid with lower product concentrations, adding to the value of the fluid and lowering overall costs.

The exceptionally thin filter cake that the product provides reduces the risk of differential sticking and tight hole from filter cake build-up.

Poly Gen™ also encapsulates the cuttings to allow effective removal on the surface by the solids control equipment. This improves solids removal efficiency and reduces dilution amounts and cost.

Recommended Treatment

Treating levels of 1.0 to 3.0 lb/bbl are typical. When mixing, mix slowly and observe fluid for signs of polymer “fisheyes”. If these are observed, slow the mixing rate and/or increase the shearing of the fluid to better disperse the polymer.

When addition to an existing fluid is planned, pilot testing is recommended. If the fluid solids are elevated some dilution may be required to avoid unacceptable viscosity.
