Filtration control in fresh water and brine-based fluids
Poly Tech™ is a modified polysaccharide polymer used for filtration control in waterbased fluids for drilling, completion, and reservoir drill-in.
Combining the performance of low-viscosity polyanionic cellulose (PAC) with hardness tolerance, Poly Tech™ provides stable filtration control with excellent filter cake properties.
Poly Tech™ replaces polymers like low viscosity poly-anionic cellulose (PAC) in fluids ranging from fresh water to high hardness brines like those encountered in west Texas and North Dakota. Since it provides filtration control in a wide range of conditions, it is a versatile component for conventional and low-solids non-dispersed (LSND) fluids.
As a component of Genesis Fluids nondamaging reservoir fluid, Gen Sys™, Poly Tech™ provides supplemental filtration control when additional viscosity is not required, including in fluids formulated with calcium chloride. Proven to be nondamaging by independent third-party testing, protection of the producing formation is assured.
Effective in fresh water and high salinity, high hardness produced brines and naturally occurring environments, Poly Gen™-based formulations are tolerant to contamination from formation brine and solids.
This can provide an extra margin of safety when drilling in proximity to injection wells or other hazards. Poly Tech™ can also be used in conventional drilling applications. It is compatible with conventional gel chemical, xanthan-based brine, and KCl polymer fluids.
Poly Tech™ provides filtration control equivalent to low-viscosity polyanionic cellulose with additional tolerance to hardness from calcium and magnesium.
Treating levels of 0.5 to 1.5 lb/bbl are typical. When mixing, mix slowly and observe fluid for signs of polymer “fisheyes”. If these are observed, slow the mixing rate and/or increase the shearing of the fluid to better disperse the polymer.
When addition to an existing fluid is planned, pilot testing is recommended. If the fluid solids are elevated some dilution may be required to avoid unacceptable viscosity.
